Sarah R. Bolden was born in Haralson County, Georgia on April 29, 1934 to Otis Hugh Bolden and Lillie Ann Smith Bolden. She was the granddaughter of Jasper Bolden and Florence B. Bolden and Jacob B. Smith and Eliza Crawford Smith. She was one of seven siblings. According to family members who remember her, she was an active, happy, and curious little girl. On December 1, 1940, she got too close to the fireplace, and her clothing caught on fire. Sadly, she did not survive her burns. Little Sarah was greatly missed by her family and friends.
