Mr. Haines died Saturday, Jan. 29, at his home.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1912 to Earle Joseph and Martha Ellen Haines in Grit. In 1946, he married Vurlie Allene Hurd. He was a cowboy before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1945, he moved to Killeen to help construct Fort Hood. He ran Haines Shoe Repair Shop until his retirement in 1964.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sandra A. Dunn of Salado and Janelle Mudge of San Antonio; a grandchild; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
