MRS. ELIZABETH ABBOTT DEAD

Former Resident of This City Died Saturday at Jeffersonville

Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Abbott, 79 years of age, widow of the late Capt. Joseph Abbott, former resident of this city, passed away at her home in Jeffersonville Saturday afternoon after an illness of about ten weeks.

Her husband, who died several years ago, owned and operated the J. C. Abbott, later the Trimble, a steam ferry that piled between this city and Milton for over thirty years. Mr. Abbott sold his interests in the boat and he and Mrs. Abbott went to Jeffersonville. Many resident of this city will remember Capt. Abbott's brother, Waller Abbott, who for many years was pilot on the steamer Trimble. A niece, Miss Bessie Diebel, of Jeffersonville, and other relatives survive.

Mrs. Abbott was a member of the Presbyterian church and a woman of sterling quality. She filled a big place in the hearts of her loved ones and was a gentle and indulging wife. She visited friends in this city frequently and only last summer she spent two months here.

She had made her home in Jeffersonville for about thirty-five years and was the last member of her immediate family. While living in this city, Mr. and Mrs. Abbott resided at 513 west Main Street.

Funeral services were conducted at the residence at Jeffersonville this morning at 9:00 o'clock and the remains were brought overland to the city for interment. Burial services were conducted by the Rev. Jesse M. Tidball at the Springdale cemetery.
