Mr. Beard, who was born in West Terre Haute, had lived in Muncie since 1928. He retired in 1974 as a millwright at Delco Battery and also owned B&C Body Shop, Beard's Used Cars, Dice Motel, and Beards Trailer Court, Hartford City, and was part-owner of Muncie Auto Auction. His most recent venture was a company called Strategic Telecom Systems, Knoxville, Tenn. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 489.
