Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Aug 29 2003 - James Fred Wilson, son of Richard Paul and Marie (Cornell) Wilson, was born September 28, 1958, in Clinton, and died at the Golden Valley Hospital, Clinton, on Monday, August 4, 2003, at the age of 44 years. Fred was a lifelong Clinton resident. He was married to Lavena Walker on October 15, 1982, at the First Baptist Church in Clinton. Fred was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught in the one-year-old Sunday School Department. He loved working with the children and he had a way of calming their fears when being left by their parents during Sunday School. They called him "Big Fred". He worked for R&M Ready Mix for 12 years. He worked for the Clinton School System as janitor until his health failed. The kids liked him and called him "Freddie Flintstone". A short trip to Wal-Mart could take several hours because Fred would see kids from school and he always took time to stop and talk with them. He was also a part-time janitor at the First Baptist Church. Fred loved spending time at his parents' farm with the family or helping anyway he was needed. Riding the mules was also a favorite pastime. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ray Walker. He was survived by his wife, Lavena, of the home; his parents, Richard P. and Marie Wilson of Clinton; one son, Matt Houk and wife, Drusilla of Clinton; two daughters, Crystal Houk, Clinton and Nichole Houk of Windsor; two brothers, Rick Wilson and wife Jean and Donnie Wilson and wife Kathy, and one sister, Linda Goben; his mother-in-law, Esther Walker, all of Clinton; two grandchildren, Hannah Lorraine Brewer and Nicholas James Brewer, both of Windsor, as well as three nephews, James Bradley Goben, Daniel Paul Wilson and Nolan Ryan Wilson; four nieces, Lindsey Marie Wilson, Erin Michelle Wilson, Wendy Renea Wilson and Amy Marie Wilson, also a number of uncles, aunts and cousins. Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel on Wednesday, August 6. Burial was in the Clinton Memory Gardens Cemetery, Clinton.
