CENTRAL CITY — Elmer Eugene Alverson, 81, of 517 E. Broad St., Central City, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born July 22, 1928, in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired coal miner, a member of Mercer Baptist Church and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Alva Carter Alverson of Central City; three sons, Dewey (Amy) Griffin of Central City, William Miller of South Carrollton and James Doug Miller of Central City; two daughters, Edna McGehee and Mary (Marion) Groves, all of Central City; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Willie K. (Mildred) Alverson of Greenville; a sister, Virginia Henry of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
