DANIEL P. BAILEY, Sr., age 83, of 10 Bailey Drive, Freeville, NY passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Hospicare Residence in Ithaca, NY after a lengthy illness. Dan was born in VanEtten, NY on Sept. 10, 1927 and was a son of the late Leon and Rena Blake Bailey. He was raised and spent his early life was spent in Erin, NY. Dan enlisted in the US Army in 1945, serving in Germany. On March 12, 1950 he was married to the former Virginia Morey at Horseheads, NY and moved to Freeville in 1954. Dan was employed at Smith-Corona, Freeville Lumber, and retired from Cornell University. He enjoyed building things, camping, fishing, country music and selling fruits and vegetable. He was the developer of Bailey Drive. Dan always enjoyed looking for a great deal while going to garage sales. Most of all he enjoyed his large family and their family reunions. His family wants to say thank you to the Dryden Ambulance and Freeville Rescue Squad for the assistance they were able to provide during Dan's illness.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia Ray Bailey of Freeville; a grandson, William Bailey of Groton; his brother, Robert (Joyce) Bailey; his sister, Lila Andrus; a sister-in-law, Ruth Bailey; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel P. Bailey, Jr.; his brothers, James and John Bailey and a sister and Mary Stamp.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Scott of the West Danby Baptist Church officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Memorials are directed to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
