Died 1:22 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 1993, at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 61, a native of Waterproof and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a retired educator.

Visiting at St. John's United Methodist Church, 9375 Highland Road, 1 p.m. until religious services at 3 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Don McDowell. Services will also be held at Newellton Union Church, Newellton, at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial in Legion Memorial Cemetery, Newellton.

Survived by wife, Patricia "Pat" Winkler Thompson, Baton Rouge; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Charles A. "Tony" and Patricia Thompson, Nacogdoches, Texas, Dr. Bruce and Libby Thompson, Searcy, Ark., and Mike and Lesley Thompson, Longbeach, Miss.; two sisters, Laverne Scallan, Fort Worth, Texas, and Carol Lovell, Bastrop; a brother, Ralph A. Thompson, Odessa, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Matthew, Graham, Ben, Melissa, B.J., Sarah, Daniel and Jimmie.

He was a lifelong educator, serving as a coach, teacher, principal, school superintendent and deputy superintendent with the State Department of Education.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society of Greater Baton Rouge, 650 Steele Blvd., Baton Rouge, 70806. Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., in charge of arrangements.
