LaVerne Parks Boyd was one of 12 children born to the union of William and Mahalia Parks. Of the 12 siblings, five brothers, William, James, Lawrence, Ronald and Charles; and two sisters, Louise Turner and Virginia Johnson, preceded her in death.

LaVerne was educated in the Kinloch School system. She was employed at Bussman Fuse Manufacturer for over 30 years until she retired in 1996.

LaVerne was baptized at an early age at St James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Shedrick Hearon. Later she moved her membership to Southern Mission Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop John Mitchell Jr. where she attended until her health began to fail.
LaVerne married her high school sweetheart, William Boyd, on November 28, 1957. To this union three children were born. Her husband preceded her in death in 1976.

Laverne's transition to heaven was made on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 2:29 A.M.

Her loving memory is left to be cherished by two daughters, Lydia Boyd of Louisville KY and Pamela (James) Adams of St Louis MO., and one son, William Boyd III of St Louis MO. From the three children LaVerne was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Marcya (Kellum) Thomas, Derral Wilder Jr., Jamar Wilder, Aaronita Wilburn, William Aaron Boyd, Elicya (Adrian) Reid, Aaris Adams, Ashley (Kenneth) McTyer, Jasmine Flakes, and William Boyd IV, who will all cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Aaris White. Others that will miss the care and nurturing of LaVerne are her 10 great-grandchildren, Kellum Thomas II, Caleb Morgan-Wilder, Deja Tolbert, Breana Payne, Derral Wilder III, Aariyon White, Destiny Reid, Desirae Reid, Kenneth McTyer Jr., and Kobe McTyer: two brothers, Samuel (Audrey) Parks and Raymond Parks, two sisters, Willena Wilson, and Emma White; a mother-in-law, Mildred Boyd Carr, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
