PVT. RICHARD HOLLAND KILLED IN ACTION
BUCKFIELD--Pvt. Richard Edward Holland of Buckfield, son of Mrs. Bessie Moore Holland, was killed in action in France, July 17, according to word received by his wife, Tuesday. This is the first casualty at Buckfield.
Pvt. Holland entered the service Nov. 1, 1943 and received his training with the infantry at Camp Croft, S.C. He was home on furlough last March, going overseas shortly after. He had been in England and then in France.
He was born at Fayette, Oct. 28, 1922. When he was seven months old, his family moved to Buckfield and he was cared for by an aunt, Mrs. Sadie Turner. He attended local schools, and on Oct. 14, 1943, he married Hazel Draper of Canton. She makes her home there with her mother.
Besides his mother and wife, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Doris Gurney, Mrs. Sarah Dolloff, both of West Peru, and Mrs. Lois Gurney of Buckfield; a brother, Lt. Alfred Holland, in France; three aunts; and several nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR PVT. R.E. HOLLAND
BUCKFIELD--Memorial services will be held for Pvt. Richard E. Holland, 21, who was killed in action on July 17, in France, Sunday at 1:30 P.M. at his late home, the residence of Mrs. Walter Turner.
Pvt. Holland entered the service on November 3, 1943 and prior to going overseas, was trained in the infantry at Camp Croft, S.C. He was stationed in England from April until the invasion of France. Pvt. Holland was the first Buckfield man to die in World War II.
