Buddy was former President Clinton's Labrador Retriever. He was born in Wild Goose Kennel in Maryland. The third born in a litter of nine puppies, Buddy was donated to Bill Clinton by the kennel's owners, Linda and Richard Renfro. When Buddy came home to the Clinton's in December 1997, they received over 5,000 suggestions for the new name. At the end Clinton came up with "Buddy" after his Uncle. In his time at the White House he quickly rose to political fame as the most widely-photographed presidential pet. He was a joyous dog sometimes going on vacations with the Clintons or even to the time he tangled Bill Clinton up with the leash and knocked him down in front of TV cameras. He moved to New York to live with the Clintons when President Clinton's term ended. On January 2nd, 2002, he escaped the Clinton residence in Chappaqua, New York by chasing a contractors truck. After he got to the end of the cul de sac he got struck by a vehicle driven by a High School student. Secret Service bought Buddy to the Chappaqua Animal Hospital, but he didn't make it. The Clinton's were not home at the time.
