Beckman, Norma M., 86, of Shelby, passed away Friday, July 1, 2005. She was born Dec. 12, 1918 in Shelby, the daughter of Jacob and Zura (Hobby) Roth. She married Ernol Beckman Aug. 5, 1940. He passed away May 12, 1972. She taught 37 years in Oceana schools and served as principal at Ferry School. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, the Oceana Center Grange, a lifetime member of Oceana Grange and the Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (David) Vanderberg of Muskegon; son Donald (Eloise) Beckman of Lakeview, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Beckman, LaDonna (Allen) Mays, Rachel (Tom) Kwolek and Tom (Gennessa) Vanderberg; eight great grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, Rebekah, Kendra, Darrius, Jenna, Megan and Jarren. She was preceded by her parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Warren Roth. She also is survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, Flossie Roth of Muskegon, Jesse Beckman, LaVerne (Beatrice) Beckman, Marguerite Reams, Wilma Beckman and Irene Beckman, all of Shelby; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Shelby, Fr. Phil Sliwinski, officiating. Interment was in the Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, Shelby. A scripture service was Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with Deacon Wesley Hewitt the leader.
