Viola Susie (Rice) Graybeal, a life-long resident of Nucla, passed away at her home on February 19, 2001 following a lengthly illness.
She was born on Second Park on January 17, 1918, the second of four daughters to Frank George and Dessie Adele (Sage) Rice.
She attended school on Second Park and in Nucla, graduating from Nucla High School in 1936. On July 31, 1937, she was married to Stanley Robe Graybeal. Six children were born to this union. Viola remained active until her death, taking great pleasure in her cattle, crocheting and latch-hooking, and her grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley, and one daughter, Phyllis.
She is survied by five children: Susie Carver of Naturita, June (Joe) McCoy of Grand Junction, Frank (Frances) of Nucla, Wayne (Laurie) of LaVeta, and Mary Anna (Don) Cortner of Naturita. Her sisters, Nellie Bennett, June Littlejohn and Evelyn (Tom) Garvey all of Nucla also survive. She is further survived by twelve grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and numberous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, February 24. The family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Nucla-naturita Ambulance Service.
