Born on August 7, 1926 in Tuskegee, Alabama, went home to the Lord on April 4, 2001 in Los Angeles after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Rosie Cason Williams, the fourth of 11 children.

Reared in Shorter, Alabama, she graduated from Tuskegee High School and from Stone Business College in New Haven, Connecticut.

She confessed Christ at an early age. At the time of her death, she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Los Angeles. Affectionately called "Grandma" by many, Dorothy had a gentle spirit, a giving heart, and an infectious smile.

She was employed at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. Subsequently, she worked at UCLA Medical Center until her retirement in 1986.

She leaves to cherish her memory, husband, Austin Atkinson, Jr.; five daughters, Geneva (Ulysses, Sr.) Pollock, Lethia (William Kelly) Wedgworth, Christine Howze, Dorothy L. McEntire, and Jacqueline Rivers; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gennie M. Boyd, Viola Harris, Rosie L. Jones, and Mildred K. McNeal; three brothers, Lum Williams, David L. Williams, and Robert C. Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, James A, Williams; and sisters, Hattie P. Dixon and Mary L. Pritchett. She is also survived by Jake Rivers, six sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law.
