Mabel was born near Postville on Sept. 29, 1909 to George and Augusta (Kamps) Sander. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church at Luana. She attended the Cherry Valley School. She married Harry William Gordon on August 12, 1931 at Luana. They lived in the Waukon, Postville and Luana areas. Mabel had been employed as a cook in the Luana School for many years. Mabel was a member of the Women of the Church and the Town and Country Club.
Mabel died November 8, 1985 at her home in Luana. Services were held on Nov. 11 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Luana with burial in the Church Cemetery. Pastor Gene Kramer conducted the services. The Schutte Funeral Services of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
She was survived by 3 sons: Duane of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; Ronald of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Merle of Rochester, Minnesota; a daughter Marilyn of Postville; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters; Mrs. Elliot (Dorothy) Neuhring of Decorah and Mrs. Harlan (Martha) Heins of Luana.
