John Collins Brown was born February 2, 1939, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Harold and Catherine (Leek) Brown. After a battle with lung cancer, he passed from this life, on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 71 years, 5 months, and 25 days. At the age of 14 years, John moved with his family to Chouteau to help manage his grandfather's dairy. He graduated Chouteau High School in 1957. He attended college for a couple of semesters, then joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 4 years. After an honorable discharge, he returned to college at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where he obtained degrees in Accounting and Economics. After graduating college, John began his career with the Federal Government as an Auditor. On January 22, 1966, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, John Collins Brown was united in marriage to Nancy Ingram. In their 44 years together, they raised 2 sons, Stacy and Jason. His work with various federal agencies over the years led his family to live in places like Okinawa and Guam. John and Nancy's first son was born in Okinawa. They lived in Colorado several years before he retired in 2005 and moved back to Chouteau. John loved adventure. He was a SCUBA diver and snow skier. For his 70th birthday, he did a sky dive. He was also an avid reader that enjoyed his computer and internet research. John was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a caring grandfather. He loved his family very much. He was very proud of his granddaughters and talked to them about the importance of education and being the best they could be. John will be missed tremendously by his family, his extended family, and his many friends. John is survived by: his wife: Nancy of the home; 2 sons: Stacy Brown of Littleton, Colorado and Jason Brown and wife Kari of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 3 beloved granddaughters: Cecilia, Emily, and Chloe, all of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 1 sister: Catherine McGinley and husband John of Tulsa, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 30, 2010, at The Discover Church, formerly the Church of God, in Chouteau, Oklahoma. Leon Blakenship officiated. Burial followed at McClain Cemetery in Locust Grove. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
