It is believed by some researchers that Philip King Sr. was the same Philip King who was christened on 2 October 1709 by parents Philip and Mary King in the parish church of St. Petrox in Dartmouth, Devonshire, England. Two other children baptized were Ann in 1701 at St. Savior and Agnis on 10 Nov. 1706 at St. Petrox. Another record of a King family: "St. Savior Church, Dartmouth, Devonshire, England: Mary b. 26 Dec 1695, daughter of Philip King." A Philip King was buried Nov. 1709; Mary King married John Begge on 16 Dec. 1718; Mary King married James Pillar, 14 Dec. 1730; Philip King buried 21 Sep. 1736.
St. Petrox is in Dartmouth Castle. Many records of baptisms and marriages of Kings are found in the St. Saviour Parish Church, built in the center of town in 1372 and in the mother church of Townstal, called St. Clement's, which is situated in a commanding position on the hill. There are no readable headstones of that time, no ages on records. Dartmouth sits at the estuary of the river Dart on the southern coast of England and is home to the Britannia Royal Naval College and the famous sailing and rowing events of the Royal Regatta. Not far from town is Agatha Christie's house where she wrote many of her famous mystery novels. On the eastern bank of the Dart River, across from Devonshire, is Kingswear Castle, opposite the Dartmouth Castle built in 1480.
Our Philip probably emigrated through the Philadelphia port around 1730 and soon after, met and married, some say, a Belgian French woman who was born at sea. Their first son, Christopher, was born February 3, 1733 and christened at Christ Church, Philadelphia, on the 17th of that month. Christ Church, established in 1695, was the first Episcopal church in Philadelphia and was the center of much religious activity. Many well-known Americans were among its communicants, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Henry Clay.
Children of Philip and Catherine, Michael, Philip Jr. and perhaps David migrated to Warrington Township, York County, Pennsylvania. David worked as a mason in Lancaster County, but must have resided in York since his estate was administered there. During the Revolutiionary War, Christopher and Philip served with Capt. Wilson's Company.
Migrating again, Christopher built a grist mill on the North Branch of Laurel Hill Creek, Upper Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset Co. It was later called "King's Mills" and inherited by Christopher's son David. Michael and Philip were also in Somerset Co.

From "Cramer-King History," 2001, compiled by Ora Flaningam and Rosalie Hartinger: "David King [son of Christopher, son of Philip and Catherine] was reputed to have had possession of the King Family Bible. This is mentioned twice in Eber Cockley's 1962 collected notes on the King family: 'John Harned, a descendant of Samuel Harned and wife Rachel King of Harnedsville, PA, traces his ancestors to Philip King of Devonshire, England) and Catherine of Belgium and France from the Bible record. He (John Harned) states: 'This I copied from my family record prepared by my great Uncle David King. I expect this record is correct, as old D.K. was counted a correct one.' and David King, eldest son of Christopher I, had an old Bible dated 1744 from which the story of the first family in America, five brothers and three sisters, with their father Philip King Sr. and mother Catherine, was supplied. David had prepared the story which he supplied to descendants requesting information. We have received two copies of this story, one from Ohio and one from Utah. They agree and prove the reference to the pioneers and their origin. We would appreciate seeing the 1744 Bible if it is still in existence.'"
