Soon after he came to Texas he married Katherine Schieffer. They had 6 children, with his wife dying in childbirth with their 7th child in 1919. Four of the children died young.
On Nov. 23, 1920 he married Christina 'Tina' Metzler. They had 3 girls and 1 boy.
In 1970 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversay. He lived to be 91 years old.
