U.S. Congressman. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy, in 1794, studied law, was admitted to the bar about 1802 and commenced to practice law in Sanbornton, New Hampshire. He was the first Postmaster of Sanbornton, clerk of the New Hampshire State Senate, (1805-08), a member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, (1809-10) and served in the New Hampshire State Militia, (1809-12). In 1811, he was elected as a Republican to the Twelfth Congress, serving until 1813. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
