Staff Sgt. Omar Aceves, 30, of El Paso, Texas died Jan. 12, in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

He was killed in action while serving with the 10th Mountain Division's 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade in the Ghazni Province of Afghanistan on January 12, 2011. Staff Sgt. Aceves joined the U.S. Army in February 2005 and was subsequently stationed at Fort Hood, Texas until 2008 when he arrived at Fort Drum, NY. Aceves previously deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2006 to January 2008.
