The son of William Arbuckle and Janet (Dyer), Robert was born in Carmunnock, Lanark, Scotland and married Jean (McNiven) there in 1847. They emigrated to Canada in about 1853 and later came to the U.S. through the port of Detroit in 1880. They resided first in Bluffton, Otter Tail Co., Minnesota, and later in Wadena where the died at the age of seventy-three years, six months and one day.
