Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Bellevue, Ohio, he served as a Private in Company G, 113th Illinois Infantry, Union Army. During the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi, on May 22, 1863, Private miller was a member of volunteer storming party. At the charge, he was at the head of his attacking force where the enemy fire was the heaviest and the danger the greatest. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on August 20, 1894. (The picture of Jacob C. Miller is NOT correct. Although the photograph is Jacob Miller, it is not the same person as Jacob C. Miller. The man in the photograph was shot in the forehead at the Battle of Chickamauga in northwestern Georgia, September 19 or 20th 1863. He was a member of Company K, 9th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, a part of General Rosecran's Union Army of the Cumberland, formally the Army of the Ohio. The medal he is wearing on his lapel, is the GAR Medal (Grand Army of the Republic), not the Medal of Honor. Here is the Memorial ID for the man in the picture 82812208
