addl info from pegmin, Melville Goodrich's great granddaughter: I was in Colorado doing research on his life when a local historian found his unmarked (at the time) grave. While I was there, a local business helped me design markers for Melville and his son David, whose grave was also unmarked. On returning home, I sent letters to all extended family members and asked for donations. As a result, we were finally able to mark the grave of this extraordinary man. Please know the proper spelling of Melville's wife's name is Mary Rhinehart.

Many old residents will remember M. J. Goodrich who was killed at Montrose, Colo, Feb. 16th. He was a brother of D. H. and D. C. Goodrich and resided here about fifteen years ago. He was married here to Miss Mary Rinehart. Mr. Goodrich met with a very tragic death. He was employed on a new government irrigation tunnel which is entered by a perpendicular shaft 265 feet deep. Mr. Goodrich was wheeling a car which was thought to be fastened to the cable. He fell with the car the entire length of the shaft and received internal injuries from which he died 36 hours later. His injuries were not at first thought to be serious as he got up and jokingly asked some of the workmen, "Wonder if I hurt the shaft any?"
