Of Scots/Irish decent, he was a protestant of Anglican Communion and was married April 1861 to Elizabeth Mary Jane Boyan of Dublin at Episcopal Church of Redemption, 11th Street, New York City. Their Children were, Fanny A. Rice (John), Thomas (Christian Brannan), Elizabeth A. Wilson (Abe), Alexander, Jr.(Sara Grace), Anna A. Mitchel (George)and Sarah Jane, who died at age 5. His burial service was held 28 Feb. at St John's Episcopal Church in Jersey City. His death certificate states he was buried at New York Bay Cemetery. The Cemetery does not have a record of his burial.
