He was born April 21, 1920, in Alpena Pass, Ark., to Robert Millard and Jessie Pearl (Barkley) Slape. He went to school in Arkansas.
Mr. Slape married Betty Lempke on Aug. 8, 1942, in Holyoke, Mass. Mr. Slape was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.
After the war, the Slape family moved to Eastern Washington. They later lived in Longview and Woodland before moving to Rainier in 1969.
Mr. Slape worked at various local mills, owned a gas station, was a freelance timber buyer, operated a dredge on the Columbia River, worked as a logger and ran cranes on the Port of Longview docks. In later years he operated a consignment company for equipment.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Slape; his sons, Richard Slape, Ray Slape, Max Slape and John Slape; his daughters, Carol Maddox, Arlene Daniels, Eleanor Hanson; his brothers, Joe Slape and Wade Slape; a sister, Dee Slape; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
