BOSSIER CITY, LA - John Cameron Durst, Jr. departed this life on January 8, 2011. John's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday January 11 from 5 until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 12 Noon on Wednesday January 12 and interment will follow at the NW LA Veterans Cemetery at Keithville, LA at 2:30 PM. A reception will follow at American Legion Post #14 in Shreveport

John was a native of Wichita, KS and served honorably in the United States Navy, retiring in 1982 at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. John made his home in the Shreveport-Bossier City area. His awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Marksmanship Rifle, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Award with three Bronze Stars, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Navy Expeditionary Medal. John was an active member of American Legion Post 421, VFW Post 5951, 40 & 8, Fleet Reserve as well as various other posts and veteran organizations.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Maggie Durst , Mother-in-law Paula Garza, children Joann Sims (Ralph), Gina Durst-Garcia (Richard), Margaret Murray (Paul), Jeanette Burnley, Rebecca Taravella (Chris), Jade Durst, Carmen Corkern (Jon) and John C. Durst III (Bonnie). Sisters, Nina Stucky (Gordon), Mary Alice Boswell (David) and Kathy Nebergall. John and Maggie have 18 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
