Died Non Battle - Plane crash near Dunsmuir, CA.

Son of Boyd Preston and Mattie Eleanor McNitch Lawhon.

HARTSVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. B.P. Lawhon of Hartsville, were notified this morning by army officials in Oregon, that their son, Staff Sgt. Boyd Preston Lawhon, Jr., 20, had been killed in a plane crash near Dunsmuir, California. The plane in which he was flying had been reported missing since March 13.

Sgt. Lawhon attended technical training at Keesler Field. Miss., and was a flight engineer. Details of the crash have not been reported to the family.

Sgt. Lawhon was a graduate of Hartsville High School, class of 1938, and attended Clemson two years prior to his enlistment December 13, 1941. During holidays from college he as employed by Sonoco Products Company. The body will be sent to Hartsville for burial.
