The following information shared by Rita Collvins Mayfield:

Mary Ann was the seventh of the eight children born to William New and Sarah Pettypool. She had five brothers, James, William O, John T, Thomas J and Stith, and two sisters, Harriet and Rebecca. She married Alexander Eanes on July 2, 1831, in Wilson County, Tennessee. The couple had seven known children, most of whom were born in Mississippi, Sarah, Thomas J, Hugh L, S V(listed as a female on the 1860 census, but listed as a male Sylvester, on the 1870 census), Henry Clay, Bettie, and Franklin Chambers.

Mary Ann's father William, died in 1835 in Wilson County. Her mother then married James Dickerson on November 29, 1839 in Wilson County, Tennessee. In 1842, Sarah Dickerson, petitioned the court to set aside her inheritance from the will of her former husband William New, in favor of her childen and/or their heirs. At this time Mary's brothrs James and William O, were deceased, as well as her sister Harriet Ramsey(my 3rd great grandmother). Her brother Thomas J and sister Rebecca New Faulkner were living in Wilson County, Tennesse, as was Richard B Ramsey, with the six children born to Harriet before her death, brother John T was living in Franklin County, Tennessee and was the guardian for the minor children of William and James. Her brother Stith was in Mississippi, as was Mary Ann and her husband Alexander and their children. Brother Thomas J soon moved to Mississippi, while Alexander and Mary Ann moved on to Texas, where they remained until their deaths.

A number of the later generations of William and Sarah New, chose Texas as the place to make their fortune and raise their families. My great grandfather Ramsey, grandson of Richard Ramsey and Harriet New, was one of those. I can't say he made his fortune, being for most of his life a tenant farmer, but he did raise a large family.
