John B. Fields, 87, died at his home near Portal, Saturday, June 6, after a long illness. He was a retired farmer, a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and Past Master of Ridgeway Masonic Lodge also Royal Arch Macons.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. C. K. Everett. Burial was in church cemetery.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Effie Harden Fields, five daughters, Mrs. George W. Turner of Portal; Mrs. G. Lyman Hendrix and Mrs. Elmo Mallard of Savannah; Mrs. Delmas Rushing of Register and Mrs. Dessie Griffin of Waycross. Four sons, C. J. and Buster of Portal; Eugene of Lakeland, Florida and Garner H. of Atlanta, 17 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Members of his Lodge served as pallbearers and conducted Masonic rites at the graveside. Smith-Tillman was in charge.
