NOTE: Many thanks to Find A Grave member Davis E. McCollum for the fine headstone photos for Willis D. Chamberlin.

Willis D. Chamberlin served as a Private in Company A of the 150th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War. He was killed in the fighting in the Atlanta area on August 23, 1864.

A misidentification is involved in the case of Private Chamberlin. A headstone with his name on it is at Site #116, Section B of the New York Plot in the Gettysburg National Cemetery, Pennsylvania. The man buried at this site in Gettysburg must have been a soldier upon whose body was found some article identifying him as Private Chamberlin. His headstone in Gettysburg has his name spelled incorrectly as "WILLIS CHAMBERLAIN."
