Katharine T. Coffee, 62, of Princess Anne died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury of aggressive widespread cancer.

Born in McCready Hospital in Crisfield, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth "JoJo" and Louise Manke Tawes. She was also predeceased by her first husband, R. C. Hewett Jr., her second husband, Frederick E. Rentschler, and a half brother, Jimmy Lee Tawes.

She is survived by her husband of the last 10 years, Terry L. Coffee; her brother, Edward J. (Marie) Tawes of Trenton, N.J.; and her half sister, Mary Grace (Joe) Herget of Florida. Also surviving her are brothers-in-law Robert (Lynne) Rentschler, Raymond (Cindy) Rentschler and Oscar (Lois) Rentschler and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

After graduating from Crisfield High School in 1966, she worked at Tawes Nursing Home. After she and Fred married, they moved to Charleston, S.C., where she cared for elderly patients in their home. In the early 1980s they moved back to Maryland and she worked for a few years as a legal secretary for attorney John Jacob before attending Wor-Wic Tech, where she earned her registered nurse degree in 1988. Her entire nursing career was spent at Eastern Shore Hospital in Cambridge. She always looked forward to going to work there, and thoroughly enjoyed working with the patients, and made many lasting friendships with her co-workers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday inside the Mausoleum at Springhill Memory Gardens on Route 50 in Hebron.
