Born January 19, 1921, in Milton, FL, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Annie Ophelia (Gordon) Locklin. She was married to C. Elwood "Woody" Charles on October 30, 1943. Woody died July 23, 2008.
In her earlier years, Lavana worked at Hubley, Armstrong Cork Co. and the Charles Store in Lancaster.
Lavana was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Mountville. She enjoyed golf, bowling, playing cards, wintering in Sarasota, FL and spending time with her granddaughters, to whom she was affectionately known as "Mammaw."
She is survived by a son, E. Gregory Charles, husband of June (Canter) Charles and two granddaughters, Ashley and Alison Charles, all of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles H. Locklin, Jr. and a half-brother, Mack K. Black.
Lavana's family would like to thank the staff of Ben Franklin 2 at Masonic Village for the compassionate care they provided for her over the last four years.
Funeral Services were held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA 17551, 717-872-2266 on Friday, January 22, 2010, with the Rev. Eloise M. Shanley officiating.
Interment in the Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, PA.
