Amanda Galloway and William Madison Spurgin probably met and married in Tennessee. Amanda was the daughter of James and Seraphrine F. (Barnes) Galloway. Her paternal grandfather had served in the Continental Army throughout the American Revolution. Amanda and William made their home in Washington County, Tennessee, and that was where many of their children were born. Later, about 1850 they relocated westward with their children and with other families. It is thought that they stopped in Iowa briefly and then settled in Missouri. They had a large family, most were farmers.
Note: The family name is recorded variously as "Spurgin" or as "Spurgeon".
