Elmer E. Murphy, 74, well known farmer, succumbed at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at his home two and a half miles northwest of Poseyville. He had been ill for the past ten days but in poor health for two years. The deceased was a native of Posey county and spent his entire life here with the exception of seven years when he lived in Crawford county near Leavenworth. He was born near Springfield, the son of Aaron T. and Jane Fitzgerald Murphy, the family moving to this community when he was quite small. He was married twice, in 1901 to Floral Emmerson, of Owensville and following her death he was married to Julia Wiseman, of Crawford county. He was a devoted member of the Blackriver General Baptist church having united with the church in 1934. He had served a number of years as one of its trustees. He had been a member of the Odd Fellows in Stewartsville since 1905 and was a past Noble Grand. Surviving are the wife; three daughters, Mrs. Katherine Ebert, Poseyville by the first marriage; Mrs. Marie Hedges and Mrs. Pauline Martin, rural route, Poseyville; three sons, Lt. Eugene Murphy, Elgin Field, Fla., Ellison, near Wadesville, and Melbourne, rural route Poseyville; a sister, Mrs. Clara Price, of Poseyville, and a brother, Stanton, near Poseyville. Funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning in the Blackriver church with ministers, Rev. Cleon Suddarth, of Fairfield, Ill., Rev. Dale Tenison and Rev. Earl Vayette officiating. Burial was in the Poseyville cemetery with graveside rites in charge of the Stewartsville Odd Fellows lodge.
