Chico Record, Friday Morning, January 28, 1921, pg 5 col 6: J.W. Proctor, Well Known Here, Is Dead. Word was received here yesterday of the death at Westwood on Tuesday of J.W. Proctor, for 15 years a resident of Chico and well known here. The cause of death was not learned.

Proctor was born in Vermont in 1855, but came to California at the age of four years, settling in San Luis Obispo county. After coming to Chico he entered the employ of the Diamond Match company, serving for many years. Last September he went to Westwood, where he had accepted a position with the Red River Lumber company.

He leaves a widow, Mrs. Sara E. Proctor of Chico; two daughters, Mrs. Cora E. Goins of Stirling City and Miss Edna Proctor of Chico; and two sons, L.A. Proctor of Santa Cruz and W.A. Proctor of Stirling City.

The funeral will be held from the home at 1163 Second street, the date to be announced later.

Chico Record, Sunday Morning, January 30, 1921, pg 5 col 5: Proctor’s Remains Here; Funeral Tomorrow. The body of J.W. Proctor, well known resident of Chico who died at Westwood, was received in Chico yesterday and taken to his home at 1163 Arcadian street, near Second avenue, where it will remain until 1 o’clock tomorrow, when the funeral will be held. Rev. Galen L. Rose will officiate and interment will take place in Chico cemetery.
