Jane Milling Harris, daughter of Dr. Benjamin F. and Mary Ann [née Milling] Harris was born in the Fairfield District near the Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) Church, also known as 'Old Brick Church' in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. Historic records show her birth year as 1815. At the 'Old Brick Church' Jane met her future husband, James McKell, son of William & Besty Bell McKell. They married in the late 1830's before heading west to Starkville, Oktibbeha, Mississippi.

Jane and James had nine known children before Jane died on August 9, 1857. Jane is buried beside her sons Charles B. (1845-1846), Charles A. (1842-1844) and husband James in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery.


Death Notice:
"Departed this life near Starkville, Miss. on the 27th of August, Mrs. Jane M. McKell, wife of Mr. James McKell, in the 47th year of her age. She was the daughter of Dr. Benjamin Harris, late of Columbia and the grand-daughter of Capt. Hugh Milling of Fairfield District, S. C. She has left a disconsolate husband and seven children (six of them under ten years of age)."
