Philip "Sonny" J. Astone, 80, of North Falmouth, formerly of West Newton, died January 2, 2011 at Falmouth Hospital after a courageous three year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Irene J. (Todero) Astone to whom he was married 57 years.

For many years he was the president of ATA Construction Company in West Newton. In 2002 he retired and moved permanently to North Falmouth where he had summered since 1971. Gardening and playing golf were two of his favorite pastimes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Francis Astone of Burlington, Susan Chaney of Streetsboro, OH, Philip Astone, Jr. of E. Falmouth, and Kathleen Tarasuik of N. Falmouth; sisters, Marie Passanesi of W. Newton, Leona Denaro of Mashpee, Claire Mennely of W. Newton, Nellie Astone of W. Newton, and Frances Tobio of Falmouth; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandsons. He is the brother to the late Carmella Peters and the late Joseph Astone.

Visiting hours will be from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy. (Route 28A), WEST FALMOUTH. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Rd., No. Falmouth. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the IRSF (International Rett Syndrome Foundation), P.O. Box 706143, Cincinnati, OH 45270-6143.
