Timothy Ray Mayfield was murdered by his wife, Susan M. Peterson Mayfield (b 3-7-1952), with a single gunshot in their home in Bunnell, Florida. He was born at Fort Eustis, Virginia, near Newport News and was survived by his mother, Emma Phippins, and siblings, Cathy J. Mayfield Azallion, Dwayne Phippins, and Marjorie "Bebe" Phippins. A member of Flagler-Palm Coast High School's first graduating Class of 1975, he was a track star specializing in the 440 yard run, and probably the best defensive end that ever played football for the F-PCHS "Bulldogs." Big Tim also had a unique sense of humor and was a talented "practical joker" whose exploits in high school bordered the legendary. He was an independent plumber, pipefitter and welder, member of Plumber & Pipefitters Union 295, and coached women's softball. He had a strong, outgoing, upbeat personality and proved on many occasions to be a stalwart, unfailing friend. Of all the men I knew as a teenager, he was a good friend of mine, my brother's best friend, and proved the most unforgetable. His wife was convicted of his murder and sentenced to 12 years state prison.

LIFE: 41 Years, 5 Months, 1 Day

CAUSE OF DEATH: Murdered/ Gunshot
