She is an active member of the Methodist Church and belongs to the Woman's Relief Corps. "Hiram Kilbourn, a carpenter, was born, 10/21/1827, in Chautauqua County, NY, and moved with his wife and son to Black Hawk County, IA, about 1856. He enlisted as a private with the 9th Iowa Infantry, 7/28/1861 and served until 9/23/1864. The 9th saw action in Arkansas at Pea Ridge and Fort Hindman, in Mississippi at Jackson and Vicksburg, and in Tennessee at Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain. On 11/27/1863, Hiram was wounded in the foot at Ringgold Gap, GA. Hiram continued to see action in Georgia at Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, the siege of Atlanta, Jonesboro, and Lovejoy Station."
