Anna Saphira Lyles was possibly Dutch and came from Holland when she was a little orphan girl, she also spoke of Raleigh, North Carolina. She had dark skin, black eyes, black curly hair and a short figure.

When she was 13 she married Julian Lester. They soon started for Louisiana. Stopped in Mississippi. Henry Lester was born in Mississippi, 1835. Not long afterwards they went on to Louisiana (built a home by the Natchitoches and Hattens Ferry Road). In 5 or 6 years they sold out and built a new home on a red hill near Middle Creek bottom (Sabine Parish). He (Julian) started to clear a new ground field. He worked hard and soon got sick and died (about 1844). Left his wife and four little children Henry, William, Sarah and Martha. They planted the new ground field in corn. Worked it with a hoe. Made their bread. Anna was the best nurse and midwife in the country. She traveled on horseback as far as Many and Natchitoches to see her patients.

The children loved her very much. She was jolly, kind, thrifty, quick motioned and pert 'til she was very old.
