Helen married John Joseph Thompson, and the couple had three sons: James, William, and John Joseph Jr.
When Helen's youngest son (my great grandfather) was only six months old, her husband deserted the family. She and her three young children left their farm in West Virginia and slowly made their way back to Pennsylvania. She took jobs as a housekeeper along the way to support her family, including working as housekeeper for Governor Curtin in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Gravesite Details
Helen was originally buried in the Saint Mary's Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery on Bowman's Hill, Darling Street in Wilkes-Barre. The church abandoned that cemetery around 1900, and the bodies were moved to this "new" Saint Marys Cemetery.
