James Thomas "Tom" Guthrie

Tom Guthrie died at the age of 82 at his home in East Prairie, Missouri following an extended illness.

Born May 17, 1900 at Scottsboro, Alabama, son of the late James Franklin and Joanna "Joe" (Willmon) Guthrie, he lived in Mississippi County since 1956 and was a retired farmer.

On October 10, 1936 he married Vester Lorene Guffey , who survives.

Also surviving are seven daughters, Sue Guthrie of home, Kathryn Haley and Ruby Jones of East Prairie, Sharon Elizabeth Wilson of Puxico, Ruth Rhyne and Patricia Day of Arnold and Shirley Howton of Jonesboro, Arkansas, four sons, Thomas "Frank" Guthrie of Glenoma, Washington, Nathern Guthrie of Charleston, James "Leon" Guthrie of Sikeston and Tony Guthrie of the home, two sisters,Hester "Tide" Guffey of Flat Rock, Alabama and Ruby Swaford of Scottsboro, Alabama, three brothers, Jake Guthrie of Claysville, Alabama, James Guthrie of Lincoln, Alabama and Minor Lee Guthrie of Scottsboro, Alabama and 29 grandchildren.

One brother preceded him in death. Services will be conducted Monday at Oak Grove Holliness Church at Gunters Mountain, Alabama.

Burial will follow in New Prospect Cemetery at Gunters Mountain. Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie is in charge of arrangements.
