Lloyd Stockdale of Estherville is Dead at 77
One of Estherville's long established businessmen, Lloyd E. Stockdale, 77, died of a heart seizure Saturday afternoon at the Minneapolis airport a few minutes after arriving on a flight from Fairmont. He had been treated for heart disease for a number of years.

He established the Stockdale Insurance and Loan agency in 1925 and remained active in his office, attending largely to personal business affairs in later years, until the time of his death.

Mr. Stockdale was born Aug. 29, 1891, at Wolcott, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Stockdale. He came to Estherville in 1907 and was graduated from Estherville High School in 1908.

He became cashier and executive officer of the Iowa Savings Bank, with which he was associated until the institution's liquidation in 1925, when he established his own loan and insurance firm.

Mr. Stockdale was a charter member of Estherville Rotary Club, he was one of the founders of the Estherville Golf and Country Club, and helped establish the Upper Des Moines Valley Hospital Association, which operated the community hospital before it was acquired by the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the B.P.O. Elks.

Mrs. Stockdale died in 1966. He is survived by three children: Mrs. John (Jane) Grogan, of Denver, Colo.; John of Iowa City; and Jerome of Estherville; and by 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Four brothers and three sisters predeceased him.

Services will be held at 11 Tuesday morning at Grace Episcopal church, Father George Six officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill. The casket will be open until 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established.
