The first son born to Andrew and Maria (Ahlm) Anderson was Albert Louis Everett Anderson. He was born Oct. 24, 1908 in Rushseba Township, Chisago County. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Rush City, and attended kindergarten through eighth grade at the Brickyard School located a few miles south of Rush City.

In 1933, at the height of the Great Depression, Albert was united in marriage to the former Helen Anderson. Albert and Helen farmed from 1933 to 1948, moving off the farm end into Rush City in 1949. Albert gained employment as a boiler engineer at the Maple Island Creamery in Rush City. This was later to become a part of Land 'O Lakes, and Albert retired from there in 1976 at the age of 74 years.

Albert's 31-year marriage to Helen ended with her death in January of 1964. In February of 1971, Albert was introduced to Irene Reineccius from Cambridge and they were married May 29, 1971. This was a delightful marriage for them and they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this past spring at Guardian Angels Health Care Center in Elk River. Due to increasing poor health, Irene has resided there since 1994.

Albert and Irene loved to travel, visiting every state in the continental United States. They never missed a fishing opener, usually fishing at Lake Plantaganet near Bemidji. They both liked to play cards, especially cribbage, and would start their day with breakfast, coffee and a card game.

Albert enjoyed watching television and very much enjoyed watching the Twins baseball games. He was a terrific bowler and at age 62 achieved a high score of 278 for a game, comparable only to his once-perfect cribbage hand of 29. He knew and spoke a little Swedish, enough to carry on a conversation with relatives who came to visit from Sweden. However, his greatest joy was his grandchildren and he supported them thoroughly in all of their school activities. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Jasper Masonic Lodge #164 in Rush City.

Albert died at his Rush City home on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, at the age of 87 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Maria; his first wife, Helen; daughter, Clarice; brother, George Anderson; sister, Mabel Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Bill Schulz of Burnsville, Sharon Sandstrom of Eveleth, and Sue and Mike Griffin of Rush City; step-children, lone Rose of Bradford, Bill Reineccius of Silver Bay, Jean and Melvin Thompson of Zimmerman, and Marge and Bill Palmer of Elk River and their families; grandchildren, Beth and Scott Durbahn, Kevin Schulz, Christopher and Carrie Johnson, Janeese Johnson, and Jamie, Josh and Kristie Griffin; great-grandchildren, Blake Durbahn, and Kyle and Dalton Johnson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ebba Mell of Rush City, Rose and Vern Nelson of Rush City, and Violet Stenholm of Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Aug. 24, 1996 at First Lutheran Church in Rush City with the Rev. Bernard Johnson officiating. Music was provided by organist Dianne Kirchberg and soloist Tim Ronning. Honorary casket bearers were Kevin Schulz, Christopher Johnson, Jamie Griffin, Josh Griffin and Scott Durbahn. Casket bearers were Delbert Swanson, Myron Olson, Ronald Anderson, Everett Anderson, Cedil Schlagel, Robert Oscarson, Donald Doran and Waldo Carlson.

Interment was at First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City.

Arrangements were by the Olson Funeral Chapel, Rush City.
