Emigration, age 5, 1848. m. Elizabeth E. Clifton at Sutter Creek, 27 Nov 1879. s/o Hugh Cook (1815-1889) and Mary Ann Murray (1820-1880. They had 12 kids, 6 sons and 6 daughters. After arrival in the USA he resided most of his young life in Wheatland, Monroe, NY with his parents. In 1870 he worked his passage from New York, by ship, around Cape Horn to San Francisco. From there, by walking and stage coach, he approached the placer gold mines of Amador County in the foothills above Sacaramento, CA. In the winter he worked the hay fields and in the summer in John Mullen's placer gold mines, near Ione, CA. Eventually, he owned and operated one of the first hay presses in the Ione Valley. Missing in the family links below is his daughter Mary Ann ("Annie")Cook (1883-1966)who married (1) Edwin H. Postle, memorial 63369979, m(2) Smith L. Ordway (1883-1959).
