JW Miller of Martinsville passed away on December 19th at 3:47 a.m. at his home on Wilbur Rd.

He was born on December 31, 1933, in Jackson, KY, and was the son of the late Tommy Miller Jr. and Evelee (Miller) Spratt.

He graduated from Mooresville High School and attended the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.

JW married Roberta Lee Kaylor on October 17, 1956, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Volitta Fritsche, Edna Connors, Charles (Chuck) Jay Miller and Becky Whaley; sons-in-law, Glen Connors and Marvin (Sport) Whaley; daughter-in-law, Robin Miller; grandchildren, Thomas Jay (T.J.) Fritsche, Christy Jacoby, Timothy (Troy) Simpson, Amanda Miller, Charles (Brandon) Miller, Brian Whaley, Stacey Kent, and Andrea Whaley; great-grandchildren, Caylee Jacoby, Joseph Jacoby, Mackenzie Pitman, Mason Simpson, Maverick Jay Simpson, Trenton Morris, and baby Kent. In addition to his wife and children also surviving is a sister, Norma Jean DeRossett of Martinsville.

JW was preceded in passing by a sister, Viola Green, and a brother, Edward Miller, a son-in-law, William W. Fritsche, and a grandson, SSG William Ryan Fritsche.

He enjoyed hiking in Red River Gorge KY, with his grandchildren, treasure hunting with his great-grandchildren, fishing in Minnesota, ministering to the poor by cutting and delivering firewood, and providing clothing to the Nada Baptist Mission and Bethany Christian Mission in Eastern Kentucky. Jay and Roberta founded and operated the Good Sheppard Ministry for 18 years. He traveled with mission groups to Haiti and Jamaica. JW enjoyed coaching little league baseball in Monrovia in the late 1960s.

He was the Gregg Township Trustee for 12 years, a member of Gregg Township Fire Department in the 1970s and early 1980s, served as precinct committeeman in Jefferson Township, and was a Reserve Deputy in Morgan County for 22 years.

JW previously enjoyed his work at the Morgan County Jail. He retired from Sumco Inc, and currently enjoyed working at Kroger in Martinsville.

The service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Costin Funeral Chapel in Martinsville.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Costin Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hall.
