In the 1950s, he had his own strip, "Blade Winter" in the New York Post and also drew the "Dixie Dugan" cartoon. He was a co-founder of the original Circle in the Square Theater in New York, and in 1983, he produced the Broadway play "Amen Corner". As a film director, his credits include "Hallucination Generation" (1966), "Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow" (1971), "Hot Pants Holiday" (1972), and "Hooch" (1977). He also was a screenwriter for several films. He died of Parkinson's disease in Los Angeles, California, at age 72.
