This generation went by REAVES and it was not until the next generation that the spellings became some Reaves and some Reeves.

The 16 August 1860 US Census of the Milltown Post Office, Northern Division of Chambers Co., AL enumerated the household of 30 Y/O John P. Chappell, a farmer, born in GA, and his 30 Y/O wife, Mary (Megginson) Chappell, born in N.C. Also living in the household were their children: 10 Y/O William Edward Chappell; 8 Y/O Mary "Mollie" Chappell; 6 Y/O Margaret "Maggie" Chappell; and 4 Y/O son, Maxie (Maxey) Thomas Chappell (mis-enumerated as a female). All children born in Alabama.

The 1870 US Census of New Harmony, Chambers Co., AL enumerated the household of the widowed 40 Y/O Mary (Megginson) Chappell, a farmer born in N. C. Her husband, John P. Chappell, was MIA at the Civil War Battle of Antietam at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 Sep 1862. Also residing in her 1870 household were her children: 20 Y/O William Edward Chappell; 18 Y/O Mary "Mollie" Chappell; 16 Y/O Margaret "Maggie" Chappell; 14 Y/O son, Mackey Chappell who was erroneously enumerated as a female: it should read 14 Y/O male, Maxie [Maxey] Thomas Chappell); and daughter, 10 Y/O Johnnie Martha Chappell.

Margaret "Maggie" Chappell married Francis Reeves on 15 Dec 1874 at Chambers County, Alabama. The ceremony was performed by John F. Bledsoe, minister. (see attached marriage record).

The 1880 US Census of Gadsden and Turkey Town, Etowah County, Alabama enumerated the household of 26 Y/O Francis M. Reaves, a farmer born in Alabama, and his 25 Y/O wife, Margaret Reaves also born in Alabama. Also residing in the household were their children, all born in Alabama: 4 Y/O Calvin J. Reaves; 3 Y/O John Reaves; 2 Y/O Marietta Reaves; and 2 month old son, Josie Chappell.

The 1900 US Census of Justice Precinct 1, Camp County, Texas enumerated the household of 46 Y/O F. M. Reeves (sic), born in Feb 1853 in Alabama who had been married 27 years. His 45 Y/O wife. Margaret Reeves (sic), was born in Dec 1854 in Alabama and also had been married 27 years. They had 11 children all of whom were living in 1900. The children living in the household, all of whom were born in Alabama and all unemployed, were: 23 Y/O John Reeves, born Jan 1877; 20 Y/O Joe Reeves, born Nov 1880; 18 Y/O Arthur Reeves, born Oct 1881; 16 Y/O Ida Reeves, born Sept 1883; 13 Y/O Ernest Reeves, born Feb 1887; 11 YO daughter, Esland Reeves, born Dec 1888; 8 Y/O Eva Reeves, born Aug 1891; 6 Y/O Ada Reeves, born Dec 1893; and 3 Y/O Alma Reeves, born Oct 1896. NOTE: This census records that Alma Reaves was born in Alabama and the 1910 US Census , recorded below, recorded her birth place as Texas.

The 1910 US Census of Justice Precinct 1, Camp County, Texas enumerated the household of 55 Y/O F. M. Reives (sic), a farmer born in Alabama and his 54 Y/O wife, Margarette (sic) Reives (sic) (Margaret Reeves), born in Alabama. Also living in the household were their children: 16 Y/O Ada Reives (sic), born in Alabama; 13 Y/O Alma Reives (sic) born in Texas(?); and 10 Y/O Elton Reives (sic), born in Texas. The census also records that the parents had been married 36 years and had 12 children, all living in 1910.

The 1920 US Census of Justice Precinct 1, Camp County, Texas enumerated the household of 66 Y/O Francis M. Reeves, a farmer born in Alabama and his 65 Y/O wife, Margaret Reeves, born in Alabama. Also living in the household was their son, 18 Y/O Elton Reeves, a farm laborer born in Texas and his 17 Y/O wife, Maria Reeves, born in Texas.
