WEST YARMOUTH - Joseph S. Cotell Sr. 85, a former Yarmouth police officer, died Sunday
He was the husband of the late Edith (Wickman) Cotell.
During World War II, Mr. Cotell served in the Navy in the Seabees in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Yarmouth Police Department in the 1940s and then an oil burner technician until his retirement.
A lifetime member of the American Legion Post 197, West Yarmouth, Mr. Cotell was a 50-year member of the Howard Masonic Lodge of South Yarmouth and a call fireman for the town of Yarmouth. He enjoyed boating, fishing and gardening.
Surviving are a son, Joseph S. Cotell Jr. of West Yarmouth; a sister, Violet Eacobacci of Duxbury; two grandchildren; and a niece and four nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 1372 Bridge St., South Yarmouth, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth Fire Department Rescue Fund, 96 Main St., South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
