It is with great sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, John Theodore Marsh, on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Mill Creek, John was the son of the late John and Emma Marsh.
He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Bras d'Or.
John was a proud veteran of the Second World War. He served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He worked many years in the coal mines, Princess Colliery and the Franklin mine. He enjoyed spending his spare time gardening. He took great pride in his vegetable and flower gardens. He will be fondly remembered for telling jokes, stories of the good old days, and his experiences of the Second World War.
John is survived by his two daughters, Greta (Carl Hillier), Anne Cox, both of North Sydney; his sisters, Emmaline Turner, Mill Creek, Margaret Harrington of Ontario; brothers, Sylvester (Ella Mae) and Peter (Betty), both of Mill Creek, Louie (Norma) of Little Pond. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Tammy, Paula, Jennifer, Darryl and Billy-Joe, and his great-grandchildren, Aaron, Michael Mason, Kendra and Courtney.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Olive (Pero), his son, Leonard, two grandchildren, Mary Louise, David Hillier, by sisters, Marcella, Mary, Regis, Evelyn, Marie and brothers, Wilfred, James, Gerald, Tommy and Lawrence.
Special thanks to Betty, Donald, Teddy and Keith for their lifelong friendship with our dad. Thank you as well to Dr. Knott and the staff at the Northside General Hospital.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church cemetery in Bras d'Or, or any charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
He left us suddenly
His thoughts unknown,
But left us a memory,
We are proud to own.
